Singing forms a unique bond with babies

New research from Western Sydney University shows that a unique bond is formed when parents sing to their babies. The study found that singing to your baby establishes a parent-infant bond in a very different way to the type of bonding that occurs through talking to your baby.

Bonding with your child involves being connected and interacting on a personal and emotional level.

Emotional communication involves three elements:

  1. Sharing and amplifying positive emotions
  2. Soothing or calming distress or negative emotions
  3. Taking joy in your child

All of these elements are crucial to developing a healthy bond.

It’s great that research continues to back up what we’ve experienced in our Mini Maestros program. Our classes start from 6 months and it’s a great place for parents to learn some ways to interact musically with children as well as develop other skills while having a lot of fun!
